Engineering & Design

Built for the operator.
Engineered for precision.

Every element of the HW-D is designed for real-world industrial use — from the ergonomic gun head to the intelligent cabinet HMI.

🔄
Wobble Laser Technology

The HW-D uses oscillating (wobble) laser welding with an adjustable range of 0–5mm. This enables wider seam coverage and deeper penetration compared to standard handheld laser welding — ideal for bridging gaps, filling imperfect joints, and producing wider, aesthetically clean beads.

⚖️
Ultra-Lightweight — <1 kg Gun Head

The ergonomic handheld torch weighs less than 1 kg — engineered for prolonged use without operator fatigue. The grip is designed per human engineering principles, providing a comfortable, balanced hold for all-day welding at any angle, including overhead and vertical positions.

🖥️
Large Touchscreen HMI

The floor-mounted cabinet features a large color touchscreen for complete parameter control. A built-in processing technology database stores mature welding programs for common material-thickness combinations — allowing new operators to recall proven parameters instantly, reducing setup time and scrap.

🎯
Red Light Auxiliary Positioning

Integrated red-light pointer provides visual targeting of the weld seam before firing the laser, ensuring precise placement on every pass. Paired with automatic gas control, the HW-D achieves fast, stable weld starts with minimal porosity and consistent penetration profile.

🌊
CW / Pulsed Output Modes

Seamlessly switch between Continuous Wave mode for high-speed deep-penetration welding on thicker material, and Pulsed mode for precise, low-heat-input work on thin sheet, heat-sensitive alloys, and cosmetically critical applications — all from the same machine and torch head.

🔌
Integrated Wire Feeder Option

Optional integrated wire feeding allows filler metal addition for gap bridging, reinforcement welds, and repairs where joint fit-up is imperfect. Compatible with standard MIG wire spools. Wire feed speed is adjustable and synchronized to laser output parameters via the HMI.

🛡️
Operator Safety Design

The HW-D incorporates multiple safety interlocks — including laser-off detection if the nozzle leaves the workpiece, automatic gas shut-off, and enclosed laser path with shielded connections. Safety features are designed to protect the operator without adding operational friction.

📦
Compact, Integrated Cabinet

The cabinet integrates the fiber laser source, closed-loop water cooling system, electrical components, and gas control into a single compact floor-standing unit connected to the torch via a 10m fiber cable. The result is a clean, manageable footprint suitable for any shop floor or field environment.

🏭
Zero Threshold Operator Model

Designed as a “zero-threshold” machine — operators with limited welding experience can produce consistent, high-quality results after minimal training. The combination of stored parameters, visual positioning, and wobble technology means the machine compensates for technique variability.

Common Questions

Frequently asked.

The HW-D laser welder is up to 4× faster than conventional TIG welding on stainless steel and carbon steel. Laser welding also produces a significantly smaller heat-affected zone (HAZ), meaning less distortion, less warping, and less post-weld grinding and dressing. For most fabrication applications, laser-welded parts come off the weld station ready for finishing — eliminating the time and cost of secondary operations.
Wobble laser welding oscillates the laser beam transversely across the weld path — the HW-D’s range is 0–5mm. This creates a wider weld bead, provides better tolerance for joint gaps, improves penetration profile, and reduces porosity compared to a static laser beam. For fabricators working with real-world fit-up tolerance, wobble mode is critical for producing consistent, defect-free welds.
Yes. The HW-D can weld aluminum alloys in pulsed output mode, which provides controlled heat input and prevents the thermal cracking that can occur with continuous-wave welding of reflective alloys. Aluminum typically requires careful parameter setting via the HMI database. Contact RiseTek for application-specific advice on aluminum welding with the HW-D.
Han’s Laser designed the HW-D as a “zero-threshold” machine. Operators with basic metal handling experience can produce quality welds within hours using the stored parameter programs. The touchscreen HMI presents clear parameter options for material type and thickness, and the red-light targeting makes accurate placement straightforward. RiseTek provides on-site operator training as part of every installation.
Yes — most laser welding applications require a shielding gas (typically argon or nitrogen) to protect the weld pool from atmospheric contamination and oxidation. The HW-D features automatic gas control integrated into the trigger mechanism, so gas flows when the laser fires and stops when released. Contact RiseTek for guidance on gas requirements for your specific materials and applications.
The HW-D is designed primarily as a handheld system for flexible, manual welding operations. The laser cabinet and fiber laser source can be integrated with robotic systems for automated welding applications — contact RiseTek or Han’s Laser for integration consultation on automated production line use cases.
