FAQ

Machine Maintenance Questions

Daily fiber laser maintenance: (1) inspect and clean the protective lens — replace if contaminated; (2) check nozzle for damage or misalignment; (3) verify chiller water level and temperature (target 20–22°C); (4) clean the laser bed slats of slag and debris; (5) check assist gas pressure and supply levels; (6) run a test pierce on scrap material to confirm cut quality before production.
Hydraulic oil should be replaced every 2,000–3,000 operating hours or every 2 years, whichever comes first. Check oil level and colour monthly — dark or cloudy oil indicates contamination. Replace hydraulic filter elements every 500–1,000 hours. Use the oil grade specified in your machine manual — typically ISO VG 46 anti-wear hydraulic oil.
Most fiber laser cutting machines require chiller water at 20–22°C for the laser source and 22–25°C for the cutting head. Running too cold causes condensation inside the machine; too high causes thermal drift in the laser source. Consult your specific machine manual — Han's Laser and Bodor machines have slightly different specs.
Inspect nozzles daily and replace when the tip hole shows any deformation, elongation, or buildup that changes the gas flow pattern. Most shops replace nozzles every 2–4 weeks under normal production. Keep 20–30 spare nozzles in inventory. A damaged nozzle directly causes poor cut quality, excessive dross, and increased protective lens consumption.
CNC press brakes require lubrication at: (1) back-gauge lead screws and linear guides — grease monthly; (2) hydraulic system oil — check weekly, replace per schedule; (3) ram guide gibs — maintained by the automatic lubrication system (check reservoir monthly); (4) tooling clamp mechanisms — light oil film to prevent galling. Consult your Dener or Haco machine manual for specific grease types and points.
Clean only the external protective lens — internal beam path optics require factory-authorized service. For the protective lens: use IPA (99%+) or dedicated lens cleaning fluid with lint-free optical wipes. Wipe in one direction (never circular). Do not touch the lens surface with bare hands — skin oils contaminate the AR coating. If you see coating damage or internal contamination, replace rather than clean.
In-house maintenance covers: daily inspection, protective lens replacement, nozzle replacement, lubrication, and filter changes. Call Rise Tek for: laser source faults, motion controller alarms, servo drive errors, hydraulic system leaks, cutting head collisions, or any fault code not resolved by basic troubleshooting. Attempting internal optics or laser source repairs without factory training voids the warranty.
