For thin sheet metal (up to 8mm) at high production volumes, 6–12kW is typically sufficient. For medium plate (8–20mm) with mixed materials, 20–30kW offers the best balance of speed and versatility. For heavy carbon steel (20–60mm+) or maximum throughput across all thicknesses, 40–60kW with the Mix-M process delivers the highest productivity. Mix-M is Han’s Laser’s patented gas cutting process designed specifically for thick carbon steel cutting (10–40mm) using lasers of 20kW or higher. It mixes cutting gases in a specific ratio that eliminates the three main problems of thick-plate laser cutting: slag at cut sections and corners, taper on the cut face, and surface roughness. The result is a significantly cleaner cut, faster cycle time, and reduced consumable costs compared to cutting the same material with pure oxygen or nitrogen.
